Located in the heart of the low Monferrato, straddling the provinces of Asti and Alessandria. It covers an area of about 30 hectares, of which 10 are vineyards and the rest divided between meadows, fields and woods.
The vineyards, situated on slopes particularly steep and difficult to work, have a substrate rich in minerals able to confer high quality to our products.
We cultivate native grapes: Barbera, Grignolino, Cortese, Freisa and Malvasia, but are also experimenting with interesting varieties, international or typical of other regions, such as Sangiovese, Chardonnay and Pinot.
We dedicate special attention to the cultivation of various minor varieties and few clones passed down through generations. We preserve these because we strongly believe in biodiversity, despite not vinified alone, but in a great red table wine.
We produce the crops with respect for nature and traditions, trying to limit to the absolute minimum the use of fertilizers and desiccants, doing so to avoid intensive cultivation.
We prefer organic fertilization and weed control by mechanical intervention.
As per tradition, the technical position of the vineyards is the “girappoggio”, this also prevents soil erosion and provides excellent exposure to the sun.
After the third year, the vineyards are fully rooted and so we do not use deep tillage. The harvest is done exclusively manually so one can easily select the best grapes, which is not feasible mechanically. Meticulous attention is paid to pruning castigates: not to let more than.
The farm “Cascina Favorita” was founded by Cesare Cerruti born in 1878, who after returning from World War I decided to leave his home and his land in Cioccaro Penango to buy a place with greater potential. In fact, the company, which covers a single plot with ideal conditions for the cultivation of the vineyards, is also convenient to services (railway, road, close to Moncalvo).
Later it was improved and strengthened by his son Secondo Cerruti born in 1905, who had the merit of being able to preserve the company in the difficult times of the crisis of the ’30s and the Second World War.
The current approach has been shaped by the grandson Cesare Cerruti born in 1937, who in contrast to the fashion of the 60s to leave the ground for an illusory better life, decided to stay on their land.Between the 60s and 70s the company abandoned the custom of supplying taverns and traders switching to the direct sale of carboys to consumers.
At the turn of 2000 the management of the company passed to the Fourth Generation: Marco and Giorgio Cerruti born respectively in 1966 and 1972, who are pursuing the slow transition from the sale of bulk wine to the sale in bottles, trying to meet customers’ needs while fully respecting the traditions.
